Welcome to Chalmers School of Architecture's big diploma exhibition! This year's edition features 100+ projects; come and see what engages the architects of the future, and join in conversations about architecture and the interdisciplinary topics that the graduates have been exploring throughout the year.
The School of Architecture grand diploma exhibition of 2024 encompasses no less than 102 final projects on master's level, offering a variety of perspectives and interpretations.
– It is clear that the students understand that architecture goes beyond the physical dimension. We are moving from objectivity to embracing the specific, and there are many fascinating perspectives to explore in the exhibition. Recurring themes are transformation, adaptive reuse, heritage, retrofitting - themes that have been on the rise in recent years and which we see very strongly this year as well. In terms of materials, we see a lot of wood, but also other exciting materials such as mycelium," says Jessica Lundin, curator of this year's exhibition.
New this year is that the discussions from the presentations will continue in a new format. On 5 June, the students will have the opportunity to discuss their knowledge and views on architecture in a panel discussion at the Röhsska Museum. There will also be a guided tour of the exhibition on 5 June, and until 7 June there will be the opportunity to visit the open exhibition and experience what is at the heart of tomorrow's architects.
– The common denominator of the various projects is the enormous amount of work put in by the students. What we see is the result of half a year's work, during which the students have really immersed themselves in their respective subjects and accumulated a huge amount of knowledge and specific approaches to the subject of architecture. I think you should see the exhibition as a chance to participate in all this knowledge," says Jessica Lundin.
The exhibition showcases graduate projects from the two Master’s programmes, Architecture and Planning Beyond Sustainability and Architecture and Urban Design. Students carry out their thesis project in one of the following profiles: Architectural Experimentation; Building Design and Transformation; Building Design and Transformation for Sustainability; Architecture and Advanced Programmes; Society, Justice, Space; Urban and Rural Design and Planning; and Urban Design.
