Centre for Additive Manufacture – Metal, CAM², focus on material and process development for powder-based metal additive manufacturing (3D printing).

CAM2 is one of Vinnova (Sweden's innovation agency) funded competence centres in Sweden, focusing on powder-based metal additive manufacturing. In the competence centers, universities, research institutes, companies and public actors are conducting applied research in close cooperation in areas that are important for Sweden's competitiveness. The venture is part of the government's initiative regarding strategic collaborative programs.

Vision

To bring powder-based metal additive manufacturing into wide industrial practice through enhanced knowledge of powder materials and processes.

Mission

To create long-term academia-industry partnership, skills and competences for the sustainable development of powder-based metal additive manufacturing.

Strategy

The strategy of CAM2 is to combine a set of critical research areas with a number of instruments. The instruments are PhD projects, postdocs, industrial PhD students, staff mobility on senior level and other ways of creating an open environment for interaction between different stakeholders and enabling development of skilled individuals. The research areas have common base in our core competences in powder metallurgy, product design and realization, materials technology and process development.

The centre gathers industrial know-how in:

  • Powder development and manufacturing
  • Powder-based metal AM technologies:
    • Powder Bed Fusion – Laser Beam (PBF-LB)
    • Powder Bed Fusion – Electron Beam (PBF-EB)
    • Binder Jetting (BJT)
    • Powder-based Directed Energy Deposition (DED)
  • High-end manufacturing by additive manufacturing
  • Post-processing

Organisation

The CAM2 centre is co-ordinated by Director Prof. Eduard Hryha and co-director Prof. Lars Nyborg.

International Advisory Board

The International Advisory Board (IAB) is a scientific body that provided multidisciplinary technical and scientific knowledge, extended overview of the state-of-the-art and future development in the field of powder-based metal AM. IAB has advisory function to the Board of Directors for counseling concerning issues like research topics and centre development . The board consists of well-known researchers in the field of powder-based metal AM, namely:
