This infrastructure is centered on chemical imaging
techniques, .ie. forming images by probing inherent chemical properties of the
target samples. The foundation for most chemical imaging techniques is mass
spectrometry imaging (MSI or IMS). Even though mass spectrometry can be used to
analyze samples in the gaseous and liquid phase the focus here is on soft and
hard materials in different forms. This infrastructure therefore
coordinates resources and aim to serve a broad user base from a wide selection
of different research areas using Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS).
