Chemical Imaging

The Chemical Imaging Infrastructure, CII, is a world-unique research infrastructure with a primary focus on high lateral resolution imaging mass spectrometry

A research infrastructure with a primary focus on high lateral and mass resolution mass spectrometry imaging (MSI).

The infrastructure offers a wide range of tools for analytical questions within materials science, geoscience and life science. The multimodal imaging capabilities makes CII unique in that we have tools and competence for both MALDI and TOF-SIMS.

MSI combines the chemical specificity of mass spectrometry with precise spatial localization down to the nanometer level to give unique insight into material properties. MSI provides an understanding of molecular as well as elemental phenomena at very small scales, at surfaces, interfaces or even in the depth of a material, be that in steel, polymers, batteries, organic electronics, paper, wood, or biomaterials.

Chemical Imaging is a WISE Technology Platform in the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability program supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
