A new research report shows that electrification can be achieved with a large share of wind and solar power, if the system is combined with flexibility measures. And flexibility is needed both with and without nuclear power.
In the report "Ett framtida elsystem med och utan ny kärnkraft – vad är skillnaden?", Lisa Göransson, Associate Professor of Energy Systems, and Filip Johnsson, Professor of Energy Systems and Programme Director, Mistra Electrification, compare how three different electricity systems for Sweden can meet the demand for electricity and fulfil the climate targets and the electrification of industry.
The report concludes that if Sweden is to succeed with electrification, it is a matter of removing various barriers to the development of new electricity production regardless of the type of power source.
