Many wanted to join the celebration as Chalmers, for the second year, held an annual ceremony to commemorate its founding on 5 November 1829. Photographer Anna-Lena Lundqvist was on site to document the ceremony and the following reception.

Visitors were welcomed to Chalmersplatsen by the Chalmers Balloon Corps and AllianceOrchestret.

The entertainment continued in the Volvo Foyer, where AllianceOrchestret was joined by Chalmersbaletten.

Marshals David Mörck and Ellen Åkermo led the procession that opened the ceremony.

President Martin Nilsson Jacobi gave the welcoming address, quoting from Pehr Dubb’s inaugural speech of 1829. Much has happened since then, he noted, but the founding ideals of serving society and improving it through technical education remain just as vital today.

Martina Olsson from the Department of Physics gave a short ceremonial lecture on how X-rays can be used to shed light on the unknown. She also turned the subject of her talk into a metaphor for the pursuit of knowledge shared by everyone at Chalmers.

The Chalmers Medal 2025 was awarded to the founders of the engineering competition Save the Egg. Here, Lars Ragnar Nerelius receives the medal from President Martin Nilsson Jacobi – in the background is the other medal recipient, Per-Anders Träff.

Francisco Gomes de Oliveira Neto stood out at this year’s ceremony as the recipient of both the Equality Award and the Pedagogical Award. As a speaker at the subsequent banquet, he highlighted the beauty of engineering.

Marco Adelfio, Associate Professor in Urban Design, Architecture and Civil Engineering, was one of three recipients of the Pedagogical Award, recognised for “developing a transdisciplinary and inclusive learning approach that promotes justice, reflection, and future-oriented thinking.” Also in the photo are Marshal Sofia Björs and President Martin Nilsson Jacobi.
