The number of external applicants to the master's programmes has increased by 16 percent. The proportion of women continues to rise as well.

When the deadline for *external applicants to the master's programmes (15 January) passed, Chalmers had received applications from a total of 11,744 national and international applicants. This represents an increase of almost 1,600 people, or 16 percent. Of the applicants, 4,989 had Chalmers as their first choice, which is also an increase from last year, by 9 percent.

The increased application pressure follows the national trend, as the national application pressure reached a record high and increased by 17 percent.

A total of 14,848 applications were received, which is an increase of 14 percent. The total figure counts all applications – one person can apply to more than one programme. The proportion of women applying continues to rise and is now at 33.41 percent compared to 31.35 percent in 2024.

Despite the increase in applications, the trend continues with several programmes having fewer first-choice applicants. This happened to 24 programmes this year, compared to 25 in 2024 and 18 in 2023.

However, 15 programmes have gone in the opposite direction and increased the number of first-choice applicants (14 in 2024).

As before, only one selection will be made in 2025, which means that all admitted students have an automatic yes-reply and must actively decline their place if they do not want it. Some programmes will also open for late applications during the spring.

*Chalmers students are not included in the figures above. They apply in a separate application round that runs between 1-15 April.
