The 13 May it was time for Chalmers' Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony, which was held in the Gothenburg Concert Hall. PhDs in science, PhDs and honorary doctors were promoted. The Chalmers' medalists and the Supervisor of the year received awards.

The doctoral degree conferment ceremony is an annual academic event and Chalmers has been awarding doctoral degrees since 1940. During the ceremony, three honorary doctors and 84 PhDs in science or PhDs were awarded. During the afternoon, the honored Chalmers Medal and the supervisor of the year were also awarded. The Chalmers Medal was given to Lena Gustafsson and Jens Nielsen, who have promoted Chalmers' activities and development through valuable contributions. The supervisor of the year was Johan Stahre who has shown the value of good supervision, both for the doctoral student's personal development and for their research results.

The promoter was Professor Emeritus Alf-Erik Almstedt who started the ceremony with a lecture. The compere for the promotion was Catrin Lindberg who welcomed and guided the guests. Amir Farahani gave a Promotus speech. Both the Student Union Chair, Isac Stark and Chalmers President, Stefan Bengtsson held speeches.

William Chalmers, portrayed by Philip Wramsby, entertained the guests. Jeanette Köhn together with the Chalmers Orchestra under the direction of Anders Ottosson and the Chalmers Choir provided the musical entertainment. Bolennart Lindberg played the bagpipes and Ulrik Höglund played the flugelhorn.

After the ceremony, a banquet was held in the student union restaurant on campus Johanneberg where all the participants' relatives could celebrate together with the new PhDs. The evening consisted of a festive dinner, entertainment and speeches.
