This autumn marks 100 years since Chalmers University of Technology established itself at Johanneberg. The centenary was recently celebrated in style on campus. History naturally took centre stage, but so too did the future and the continued development of the campus.

The Origo Physics Building was the first of Chalmers’ buildings to be completed at Johanneberg, in 1926. Before then, Chalmers was based in the Vasastaden district of Gothenburg, opposite what is now the Röhsska Museum.
At the time, Johanneberg was still countryside. Today, the campus is an integral part of the city and a vibrant environment for education, research, innovation and student life.
The Origo Building marked the starting point for a century of development that has shaped the campus into what it is today.
The centenary was celebrated with speeches, music and cheers at a ceremony in the courtyard of the Origo Building in late September. Students, staff and specially invited guests gathered to celebrate.
“Let us continue to fill this building with life, joy and innovation in the century to come,” said David Mörck, President of the Chalmers Student Union.
“Chalmers’ future is at Johanneberg,” emphasised Vice President Fredrik Nilsson in his speech. The campus will continue to develop for new generations of students, researchers and staff.
