More about Börsen

On 1 June 1844, the King of Sweden, Oscar I, laid the first stone for Gothenburg's mercantile exchange and festival building, Börsen (the Bourse). When the house was completed five years later, it was Sweden's most expensive building at the time and described by many as Gothenburg's answer to Stockholm's castle. The merchants' meeting rooms and exchange offices were housed here, as well as a banquet hall designed for the city's finest parties, a bakery, a patisserie, a billiard room, and a restaurant open to the public.

Since then, countless official visits and parties have been held at Börsen. Many foreign state visits, and almost all Swedish royalty that has existed since the house was built, have been guests here. Börsen is now the official representation building of the City of Gothenburg, where the municipal council gathers and official visitors to the city are received.

About Chalmers

The conference is hosted by Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, which conducts research and education in technology and natural sciences at a high international level. Gothenburg, located on the south-west coast of Sweden, is surrounded by rocky shoreline, deep forests, tranquil lakes, and the surging sea to the west. No other Swedish city provides such easy access to nature. Gothenburg is a vibrant green city with a vibrant cultural scene, world-class restaurants, and a fascinating history. Chalmers has 3100 employees and 10,000 students and offers education in engineering, science, shipping, and architecture. With scientific excellence as a basis, Chalmers promotes knowledge and technical solutions for a sustainable world. Through global commitment and entrepreneurship, we foster an innovative spirit in close collaboration with the wider society. Chalmers was founded in 1829 and has the same motto today as it did then: Avancez – forward.
