Materials Science Area of Advance

Develops new materials for tomorrow's sustainable technologies, materials that can be part of solutions to global challenges in energy, health, construction, and transport.

The Materials Science Area of Advance tackles the global challenges in our time through combination of excellence in science and relevance. Our vision “A sustainable society through excellence in materials science” manifests itself in our research profiles Materials for health, Materials for energy applications and Materials for green transitions.

We run research initiatives that span several departments at Chalmers and provide a strategic contact point for our stakeholders. By gathering competencies from many disciplines, and in close cooperation with academia, society and industry, we can achieve solutions to the major challenges of our time. We provide a strong national and international network through our academic and industrial collaborations, which makes us a desired partner in large projects, where we contribute with solutions for a sustainable future. For example, we work closely with University of California Santa Barbara, UCSB, and Stanford University.

Strategic partnerships

The Materials Science Area of Advance is host of three of Chalmers’ strategic partnerships. The partnerships promote long-standing collaborations between Chalmers, industry, and organisations, through research, competence provisioning, technology development and innovation. As the partnerships entail collaboration between top level managements, the partners can address joint priorities and form common agendas.
