Morning Boost online with Helene Ahlborg

This is not innovation as usual: Building a space for innovation and entrepreneurship in Rwanda and unlearning how to do it.
In this talk, Associate Professor Helene Ahlborg will share insights from an ongoing process of co-creating an innovation hub at the University of Rwanda (UR) in the area of Sustainable energy. The Hub is established to bring additional value to a research and capacity building program between Chalmers and UR by strengthening the connection to the energy sector, supporting energy-related innovation and training students and staff in entrepreneurial thinking and skills.

This, however, means taking an active role as system builder in a national and regional innovation system and business ecosystem, and that brings challenging questions to the fore around the roles of universities vis a vis other, more fast-paced, actors. It also highlights sensitive issues around finance, intellectual property, value appropriation and what really needs to be innovated in a paradigm that is largely modelled based on Western thinking, economies and institutions.
