Aim
The course is an introduction to industrial engineering and management, and concerns providing the students with an overall understanding of the conditions for industrial activity in the society and in the aggregate national economy.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- apply basic concepts in economics with relevance for industrial management and economics- analyze supply and demand, pricing, cost and production functions, industrial change, innovation, micro economic and macro economic social problems based on an analytical model in economics
- discuss an industrial management and economics problem within an industry using the analytical tools provided in the course
Content
The course focuses on providing basic knowledge about economic concepts and different types of socio-economic processes of change. The purpose with this is to provide the engineering student with an understanding of the socio-economic context of the education.Organisation
The course is structured around a number of lectures and a written examination. In order to make the course as stimulating and instructive as possible, we encourage discussions between teachers and students.Literature

The course is being examined by a written examination. A hand-in task may be given as well.The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers about disability study support.
