At Chalmers School of Maritime Studies, research is conducted on shipping and other maritime industries, including their role within the entire transport and energy system. We educate the ship officers of tomorrow, with a strong focus on the sustainable development of the maritime sector.

Smart Shipping

Increased digitalization within the maritime industry requires research not only on the complex sociotechnical system but also in areas such as the training of future operators, Big Data management, development of decision support systems, regulatory support development, and safe and efficient operational procedures.

Divisions at Chalmers School of Maritime Studies

Chalmers Maritime School has two divisions: Nautical Studies and Technical and Maritime Management.

Nautical Studies

The Division of Nautical Studies provides education in navigation, maritime safety, and leadership, and conducts research with a focus on user-centered design to support the maritime industry in its transition to Smart Shipping.

Technical and Maritime Management

The Technical and Maritime Management unit is primarily engaged in teaching within marine transportation technology, mechanical engineering, logistics, management, law, economics, and operation and maintenance engineering.
