VMTA (Västsvensk medicinteknisk arena), is West Sweden's collaborative arena for medical technology – from idea to patient benefit. VMTA is a collaboration between Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, with support from Region Västra Götaland Region.
VMTA supports researchers, healthcare professionals and innovators in western Sweden who want to take their ideas further in the field of medical technology. Through funding, advice and collaboration, we make it easier to navigate the entire value chain – from the initial idea to practical application in healthcare.
Background
VMTA started in January 2025 and will run until December 2027. The initiative comes from the Västra Götaland region together with Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sahlgrenska Academy and Chalmers University of Technology. The initiative was preceded by several years of needs assessment, workshops and market analysis, which showed a clear need for a common arena for medical technology in western Sweden.
