Develops new knowledge to meet transport-related challenges in accordance with the UN's global goals for sustainable development.
Transport Area of Advance helps to stimulate multidisciplinary collaboration between various departments at Chalmers but also external collaboration with academia, industry, and society. Examples of academic partnerships are the Mobility, Logistics and Automotive Research Centre (MOBI) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Tongji University, and Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) at University of Michigan.
The Area of Advance's activities include research, education, and utilisation. University of Gothenburg is an integrated part of Area of Advance Transport.
The research is organised in three profiles:
- Sustainable vehicle technologies
- Traffic safety
- Transport efficiency and customer adapted logistics.
These are further promoted by the three challenges: increasing efficiency in transport and logistics, increasing transport safety and achieving a fossil free transport system.
Our research areas, centres, and available infrastructure in Transport.

Strategic partnerships
Transport Area of Advance is host of three of Chalmers’ strategic partnerships. The partnerships promote long-standing collaborations between Chalmers, industry, and organisations, through research, competence provisioning, technology development and innovation. As the partnerships entail collaboration between top level managements, the partners can address joint priorities and form common agendas.
