Education & Capacity Building

FP3 invests in education and training to build the expertise needed for the next generation of fusion power plants.

A successful transition from experimental fusion research to operational power plants requires not only advanced technology, but also a highly skilled and sustainable workforce. Education and capacity building are therefore central components of FP3.

The project places a strong emphasis on PhD education, supporting the training of new researchers in key areas of fusion power plant research. Through interdisciplinary supervision, access to advanced modelling tools, and close interaction with international fusion programmes, FP3 provides doctoral students with a broad and reactor-relevant education.

Beyond individual training, FP3 contributes to national capacity building by strengthening collaboration between universities and research groups. By connecting students and researchers across institutions, the platform helps build a coherent national community with shared knowledge, methods, and long-term perspectives.

Through education, training, and knowledge transfer, FP3 helps ensure that Sweden develops and retains the expertise required to operate future fusion facilities, contribute to international programmes, and support the emerging fusion energy ecosystem in both the public and private sectors.
