The course Leading self, individuals and groups (CIU226) or equivalent, or work experience (at least one week) from an organization larger than 10 members.Aim
This course prepares the students for how to successfully manage work in a kind of organization often characterized by statements of it being 'ineffective', 'plagued by turf wars', or where 'management do not pay attention to reason'.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
After having completed the course, the student is expected to
- understand, explain and prevent development of organizational dysfunctionalities
- analyse and develop one's own decision making
- analyse a given situation and choose from a repertoire of leadership and communicational styles
- reflect on one's own strengths and weaknesses
- lead oneself, that is, identify one's own need for further knowledge and development
- analyse and decide using societal, ethical and sustainable considerations
- develop learning and coordination strategies
- describe and apply central project management concepts and tools

Organisation
The course consists of lectures, seminars and workshops, and is organized into two modules; Project Management Basics (1.5 hp) and Dysfunctional Organizations (6 hp).Literature
Textbook. Scientific and management articles from Chalmers Library or made available as electronic hand-outs.Examination including compulsory elements
The module Project Management Basics is examined by an examination, graded U/G.The module Dysfunctional Organizations is examined by written assignments, graded U/G.
The overall course grade is based on the sum of the marks of the above modules, graded U/3/4/5.
The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers about disability study support.
