Abstract:

Language models such as ChatGPT often provide acceptable answers to questions about widely known facts, but they are typically less reliable when queried about more specialized information. In this seminar, we discuss a number of recent papers that address various aspects in the use of modern language models as information systems. We discuss questions such as how to update the "facts" represented by language models, how to know what information their output is based on, and the pros and cons of integrating language models with retrieval systems.
