For many years Francis led the research and development at the world renown architecture office Foster+Partners in London. Francis is honored for important contributions to the successful use of digital design in architecture and he is celebrated for his friendship and collaboration with Chalmers and in particular with the Architecture and Engineering program. With a university degree in aeronautical engineering and a life-long practice in architecture, Francis embodies the virtues of our interdisciplinary program at Chalmers.

In the conversation you will not only meet Francis but also his father Robert Aish, a legend in digital design. Already back in the mid 1970s Robert Aish devised a parametric platform where architects and users together could engage in the creative process while observing the performances of their design. As few in his generation, Robert spearheaded the subsequent software development that defined the novel practices of architectural design.

At a talk in Kunskapstrappan, SB1, Francis and Robert, will expand the view from the computer screen to our planet with the present days challenges each of us needs to take on. In the conversation we will talk about three key questions:

  1. GREEN ARCHITECTURE AND THE CLIMATE GOALS

About digital design and the urgent and indispensable sustainable transformation of our built environment.

  1. ARCHITECTURE FOR PEOPLE AND THE DEFENCE FOR DEMOCRACY

About digital design and the critical and necessary democratic inclusiveness of our civic societies.

  1. ARCHITECTURE LIKE BIRDS AND DESIGNING WITH THE NATURAL PHENOMENA

About digital design and the joy of designing airplanes where beauty and performance cannot be separated.

The Sustainability Group at the Architecture and Engineering Program will be the hosts of the event and Morten Lund will moderate the conversation.
