The Production Area of Advance is Chalmers’ university-wide strategic platform for research and collaboration in sustainable production. We bring together expertise from multiple departments and disciplines to drive the transition enabled by electrification, digitalisation and circularity.

We generate groundbreaking knowledge, methods and tools for resource- and energy-efficient manufacturing processes, advanced product development and resilient production systems. Our research integrates modelling, simulation and optimisation with advanced decision support, in close collaboration with industry and societal partners.

By combining technological excellence with a systems perspective, we strengthen Chalmers’ position as a leader in sustainable manufacturing technologies and next-generation production environments, including connected and automated systems as well as high-quality and sustainable working environments.

The Production Area of Advance acts as a strategic hub for major research initiatives and partnerships – nationally and internationally – and serves as a natural platform for long-term collaboration contributing to a sustainable future.

Strategic partnership with Ikea

The Production Area of Advance hosts one of Chalmers’ strategic partnerships: the long-term collaboration with IKEA. Chalmers’ strategic partnerships promote sustained collaboration between the university, industry and societal organisations through research, competence development, technology advancement and innovation.

As these partnerships operate at top management level, they enable the partners to align priorities, define joint agendas and drive transformative initiatives with long-term impact.
