Yu Cao

Associate professor, division for Materials and manufacturing, Industrial and materials science

Yu Cao is working in the area of material characterization focusing on the surface and interface analysis, with an emphasis on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) which have the sampling depth less than 10 nm. She focuses her research on both applied and basic levels in the areas including metallurgy, microelectronics, coatings, corrosion, nanotechnology, tribology, biomaterials and so on. Another research focus is on the mechanical behaviors of engineering metals and the correlation with microstructure, temperature and strain rate.
Co-lecturer for courses “ Metal engineering”; “Mechanical performance of engineering materials”
Supervision for undergraduate, master and Ph.D students to complete thesis
Examiner for courses “ Physical Metallurgy”; “Mechanical Properties of Metals” (undergraduate program, China)
Teaching assistant for courses “Materials Technique”, “Metallic Materials” and “Materials Characterization and Failure Analysis”.
