Leonie Wenning

PhD student

Leonie Wenning is a PhD student in the Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology since April 2014. Her work is part of the YEASTCELL project (www.yeastcell.eu), which is funded by the European Union FP7 Marie Curie Programme and runs from September 2013 to August 2017. In her research, Leonie develops yeast that can synthesize tailor-made very long-chain fatty alcohols and wax esters like those naturally found in the jojoba plant. Wax esters are valuable compounds that can be used as lubricants, as coatings of e.g. fruits or pharmaceuticals and in personal care products.
