Johannes Palm's research focuses on the mooring of wave power devices. The aim of the research is to develop numerical tools for the mooring behaviour and forces that can be used by the four companies supporting the Ocean Energy Centre. The research is performed in close cooperation with these companies. Wave power converters will per definition be placed in areas that much exposed to waves, and in many cases on relatively small depths. This puts special demands on the mooring system of the devices, and from an investment point of view it is important to be able to ensure survival in the roughest seas. The aim is to develop a tool that can be used to calculate the peak load of a mooring system in breaking waves, and also to create the possibility to calculate the dissipation of energy that is due to the choice of mooring system.
