Ren Qiu

Doctoral student, Microstructure Physics, Department of Physics

Ren started to work as a PhD student in the Materials Microstructure division in August 2017 after finishing a bachelor study in Materials Physics at Shandong University and a master study in Applied Physics at Chalmers University of Technology. His doctoral research is mainly concerned with microstructure characterization of hard materials, especially coatings produced by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The main part of the work is to perform transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and associated techniques, including advanced sample preparation using focused ion beam (FIB) methods, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and energy-filtered TEM (EFTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), high resolution TEM (HR-TEM) and scanning TEM (HR-STEM). The doctoral project belongs to a research network including Uppsala University, the Royal Institute of Technology, Sandvik Coromant and Seco Tools.
