The aim of my studies is to create new electrolytes from Li-salts and ionic liquids and to characterize their chemical and physical properties especially at high temperatures. Finally these electrolytes should be used in Lithium-ion batteries.

It is not viable to use conventional electrolytes at higher temperatures, because of their deteriorating properties and because of safety reasons. But there are ionic liquids, which show remarkable properties: they are unflammable, have a very low vapor pressure, are thermally and electrochemically stable, etc. and therefore are ideal for a safe electrolyte even at higher temperatures.

Characterization methods which are going to be used: Karl Fischer titration, densitometry, viscosimetry, DSC, TGA, AC conductivity, FT-IR, FT-Raman analysis and electrochemical methods.
