About the course
Applications where nonlinear phenomena are of importance exist in many engineering areas. The course is intended to provide fundamental knowledge in the classic theory of finite-dimensional nonlinear dynamical systems. One of the most powerful and widely spread results of nonlinear systems theory are the Lyapunov methods (and their extensions) for the investigation of stability of a nonlinear dynamical system - this is a major topic in the course. The course also treats some modern methods for the design of nonlinear controllers, e.g. exact feedback linearization. One of the course goals is to prepare the participants to be able to read research articles in the area; another one is to give training in problem solving and critical study of the material.

Passivity and positive real transfer functions. The describing function method. Perturbation theory. Feedback control. Exact feedback linearization.
