About Swedish Center for Quantum Technology

Quantum technology is developing rapidly and is expected to have a significant impact on areas including industry, communications, cybersecurity, healthcare and defence. The Swedish Center for Quantum Technology will bring together Sweden’s strengths in the field and establish a long-term national structure for research, education, infrastructure, innovation and collaboration.

The Swedish Center for Quantum Technology will be organised as a network of nodes, with participation from leading Swedish universities, research institutes, industry partners and startups. It will build on the expertise, infrastructure and national coordination already established through initiatives such as the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT). This includes strong research environments in all areas of quantum including quantum computing, quantum materials, microwave technology, cryogenics, nanofabrication and system integration, quantum communication, photonics, software, quantum sensing, semiconductors, quantum materials and theory.

A central mission of the center is to connect the entire value chain, from fundamental research and technology development to innovation and application. It will support long-term access to advanced research infrastructure and testbeds, strengthen education and skills development, and create better opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry.

The center will also serve as a clear Swedish interface towards Nordic, European and global quantum initiatives. By coordinating expertise and resources nationally, Sweden is positioned to play an active role in international collaborations and strengthen its position in the European quantum technology landscape.

In the longer term, the ambition is for the Swedish Center for Quantum Technology to develop into one of Europe’s important centers for quantum technology and help ensure that Sweden has the expertise, infrastructure, international connections and strategic capabilities needed as quantum technology becomes increasingly important to society.
