The transport sector is a large contributor to the current climate crisis due to fossil-based fuels, as it brings a net positive carbon emission to the atmosphere. Biofuels as a replacement of fossil fuels bring a net zero addition of carbon emissions, however current feedstocks such as tall oil do not cover the fuel demand. Next generation advanced biofuel uses waste products as feedstock, and by pyrolysis a large variety of waste products can be converted. A common problem in the production of biofuels is catalyst deactivation.

Emma’s focus is to investigate and minimize catalyst deactivation. The project is within the Competence center for catalysis (KCK) at Chalmers.
