Every day, medtech solutions are presented to problems no clinical person has ever asked for. In this course we focus on finding a real need to solve. That is done by following a so called Biodesign method developed over 25 years in Stanford. Hence, one could say that this course will end where other Chalmers’ courses start.
General information
The aim of the course is to develop skills in so-called called needs finding and ideation in health tech. More precisely, by observing and interacting at a given clinical environment at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, formulating, by well-tuned brainstorming meetings and interacting with the stake holders at the hospital and generate a substantial list of clinical needs. That list will then be scrutinized, in an equally well tuned filtering process, after some iterations, down to ideally one need for each group. That need will be the concrete end-delivery.
Prerequisites
The student should have a documented ability to work productively in a group of peers, e.g., completed a successful bachelor's thesis project, both with respect to the concrete outcome, the thesis, and its presentation, but also as a working process in itself. Regarding the academic background, the student will be part of an interdisciplinary group with academic training in various engineering fields plus medical experts, i.e., nurses, and MDs.

To assess your application, please provide us with a motivation letter (max 2 pages) and your CV. The motivation letter and CV requested is an opportunity for each student to express specific interests and experience that cannot be seen from transcripts only. The purpose of the motivation letter and CV is to assist the teachers in admitting the most suitable students to the course in case there are more applicants than seats (maximum 15 students), and for group compositions in a second phase.
The letter of motivation and CV must be uploaded on your account at universityadmissions.se.
