This is an environment where radiation exposure, extreme temperatures, and launch loads place extraordinary demands on structures.

To understand how to build structures that can withstand these pressures, you will focus on materials selection and manufacturing, structural analysis including finite element methods, fatigue and stability. You can also explore the design of habitats and space stations for human crews. Other areas include deployable structures, structural optimisation, and on-orbit manufacturing. The skills learned here could lead to positions in spacecraft and satellite design, advanced manufacturing, materials engineering, and the development of future space habitats and infrastructure.
