Integrated Product Design

This includes understanding how products can communicate meaning and values: how the shape, choice of material, and overall look of a product are not neutral, but are deliberate decisions that represent who and what the product is for, and what it represents.

You will learn to design and evaluate physical products from the perspectives of expression, performance, and production realities, bridging aesthetics, technology and human values. You will combine form theory, semantics, materials knowledge, manufacturing processes, user experience considerations and sustainability assessment with hands-on design and advanced digital modelling.

With a combination of creativity and engineering precision, you will be ready for roles in areas like industrial and product design, experience design, product development, and design consultancy.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in: Industrial Design (Engineering), Product Design Engineering, or the equivalent

Prerequisites:
Industrial Design (at least 45 cr, e.g., including design and development, design methodology, form theory or similar).

Mechanical engineering (at least 20 cr.).

Human-Machine Interaction (at least 6 cr. including e.g. user experience, usability, interaction design, ergonomics, human factors engineering, human-computer interaction or similar).

A portfolio of design projects:
The portfolio should contain three (3) examples of projects, which should demonstrate the applicant’s proficiency in designing with consideration to the following aspects: technical functionality, user interaction and experience, as well as elements of aesthetics. A portfolio that considers all three aspects as an integrated whole in examples is preferred.
