Grant proposals differ from other forms of academic writing, regarding style, rhetoric and argumentation. The Grants Office offers a workshop on how to write competitive research grants proposals. We will explore essential components of a grant proposal such as the first page, purpose and aims, state of the art and methodology. The participants will learn how to articulate their research goals, justify the significance of their work and how to build a successful argument. Additionally, we will discuss who will read the proposals, the evaluation criteria, and the expectations of the funding bodies. We will also discuss specific research grants and demonstrate how the general advice can be tailored to meet the requirements of particular funding calls. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a better understanding of the key elements of a strong research grant proposal and practical tips for crafting persuasive and competitive grant proposal.
