Abstract

Do you remember when Massive Open Online Courses were predicted to make most of the traditional universities disappear? Or when Corona forced us to work, teach and learn online, and never to return to the way things were before? Do you think generative AI will fundamentally change education? Promise and impact of potentially disruptive educational technologies have not always been the same, though we can see many traces in the landscape of modern higher education and lifelong learning. In this promotion lecture, I will talk about my research in relation to some of the fundamental innovations over the last decade, examining the key question(s): What works, for whom and in which context?
