Dr Anna McGowan will be visiting Chalmers and will be delivering a short course during her visit. After 33 years at NASA, most recently as the agency’s senior technical lead for complex systems design, she will share her experience of complex challenges within the aerospace industry.
Overview

Dr McGowan will give a lecture (see separate calendar entry) and lead this short course during her visit.
Short course: Human Centered System Design Innovation with an Introduction to Design Thinking
Tuesday 20 October, 09:00–13:00
Location: SB-L400
Registration required. Places are limited. Register no later than Monday 19 October.
Course content
This short course provides an overview of design and innovation at the systems level for complex systems that are common in aerospace engineering and other disciplines. Human-centered system design innovation includes thoughtfully considering the large-scale and diverse needs of the human systems that the design serves as well as harnessing the collective wisdom of interdisciplinary teams the design relies upon.
Considering design from this perspective inherently includes analysis of the intrinsic couplings between engineering and non-engineering fields such as economics, policy, urban planning, organization science, anthropology, and many others.
Example methods will be introduced with an opportunity to apply them to sample problems. As design thinking implementation at the corporate level has gained an enormous amount of traction, an introduction to design thinking will also be provided with example methods incorporated throughout the lectures.
