Abstract: For the past year and a half, generative AI tools, spearheaded by the public release of the chatbot ChatGPT, have led to a broad debate on their impact on education and future workforce needs. During the seminar, I will present results from a study investigating how interacting with ChatGPT during laboratory work might open up more opportunities for students to get guidance and help typically sought from their teacher. The study was conducted as a case study involving seven groups of Swedish upper-secondary school students studying either Physics 1, Physics 2, or Physics 3. The collected data consist of video recordings of the students during the lab, chat history with ChatGPT 3.5, handwritten notes during the lab, and a video-recorded group interview with each group before and after the lab.
