Abstract: In this talk, I’ll introduce the way a quantum computer operates with Shor’s algorithm for factoring as example.
Then I’ll give a brief overview of the ongoing efforts to build a superconducting quantum computer in the Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology (WACQT).
Near term hardware has limitations, both in number of qubits (<10.000) and how many gates can be performed before errors are too many.
Thus finding relevant computational problems that can be tried out is a challenge on its own, which we are addressing together with our industry partners.
In particular I will mention combinatorial optimisation problems coming from logistics and protein folding and also quantum chemistry.
