In this talk I will discuss some recent developments concerning spectral asymptotics for Dirichlet and Neumann Laplace operators in a bounded domain with Lipschitz-regular boundary. More specifically, we will prove two-term asymptotic expansions for positive order Riesz-means. If time permits I will also outline some applications in the realm of spectral shape optimization.

The talk is based on joint work with Rupert Frank.
