Metals or fossil fuels from the Earth’s crust – what’s the difference? Welcome to Chalmers Energy Talks on 24 March, exploring how electrification is reshaping raw material supply and the short- and long-term consequences of the transition.

Invitation | Chalmers Energy Talks:
When electricity replaces fossil fuels, a new infrastructure is built. Unlike fossil fuels, which are consumed directly, metals are embedded in technologies and infrastructures designed to last for decades.
Instead of extracting oil, coal and gas from the ground for combustion, ores are mined, from which metals are separated and chemically transformed to be built into generators, transformers, power lines, motors and batteries.

How does the supply of raw materials change as society becomes electrified compared with a fossil-fuel-based system?

How sustainable can these systems become in the long term, and what are the short- and long-term consequences of the transition.

At Chalmers Energy Talks, we discuss these questions together with contributors from Chalmers and the automotive industry. Language: Swedish.

Panel:

  • Tomas Kåberger, Moderator, Head of the Chalmers Energy Area of Advance.
  • Linnea Petersson, Sustainability Strategist at Volvo Trucks Technology & Industrial Division
  • Anders Nordelöf, Professor of Environmental Systems Analysis, VTI / Chalmers; Theme Leader, Environment & Society, Swedish Electromobility Centre
  • Björn Sandén, Professor of Innovation and Sustainability, Chalmers

Of course, during the Q&A , you can ask questions in english.
Time and venue: 24 March, 12:00–14:00 Chalmers Student Union Building, Conference Hall RunAN Entrance: Chalmersplatsen 1, Chalmers Campus Johanneberg
