Abstract:

Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) are an attractive choice for short-range optical interconnects in datacom applications due to their high power efficiency, low cost, and strong reliability. However, their severe nonlinearities and sensitivity to temperature make them a challenging load for driver circuits, especially at high data rates. There is a growing need for low-power electronic circuits that can deliver sufficient output swing to drive VCSELs effectively while also compensating for their performance limitations. This work focuses on the design and fabrication of electronic driver circuits for VCSELs, targeting high-speed short-range communication and robust operation over a wide temperature range.
