Abstract:
Quantum control theory has provided inspiration for several quantum algorithms, including certain evolution-based quantum algorithms and a particular class of variational quantum algorithms (VQAs). In this talk, I will demonstrate a specific connection between quantum control theory and quantum algorithms. I will discuss an evolution-based quantum algorithm that has been inspired by quantum control theory, namely the Feedback-based ALgorithm for Quantum OptimizatioN (FALQON), which is used to solve quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problems. I will show how this algorithm can be extended to solve constrained optimization problems and prepare excited states of Hamiltonians. Finally, I will showcase a practical engineering application of this algorithm.
