Materials for Tomorrow 2022

The topic of the 2022 Materials for Tomorrow will be Materials Science for Sustainability and cover all aspects of the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability, WISE. The event will take place at Chalmers Conference Centre, RunAn, in Gothenburg on 24-25 November with several internationally recognized speakers.

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation is investing SEK 3 billion in a new research program, the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE). The aim of the program 2022 is to create the conditions for a sustainable society by researching next generation of ecofriendly materials and manufacturing processes. This will also facilitate better technology for energy systems of the future, and to combat pollution and toxic emissions.

Topic: Materials Science for Sustainability.
All aspects of WISE, the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability, will be covered:

Conversion, storage, and distribution of clean energy – Circular materials replacing rare, energy-demanding, and hazardous materials – Mitigation, cleaning and protection of atmosphere, soil, and water – Discovery of materials for novel sustainable technologies and applications.

This year we will find out and learn more about how Chalmers University of Technology’s researchers, in collaboration with industry, can take part in the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability, WISE, research program.

One example is through industry PhD student and postdoc calls, WISE research arenas and more. The program will cover Chalmers University´s activities in the four thematic areas of WISE, we will hear from the WISE leadership as well as from industry representatives.

Materials for Tomorrow is an annual conference covering research, education and innovation in materials science, with different themes every year. It is one of Chalmers' Initiative Seminars and is a crucial meeting place for people representing research, innovation and society.

Thursday November 24, 9.30-17.00

  • 9.25 Welcome: Maria Abrahamsson, Director for the Area of Advance, Materials Science. Professor at Chemistry and chemical engineering, and coordinator for WISE at Chalmers university of Technology.
  • 9.30 “Living in a material world” – stories of the past and lessons for the future. Björn Sandén, Professor of Innovation and Sustainability at Chalmers University of Technology and Vice Chair, Swedish Climate Policy Council.
