Maritime shipping is the backbone of global trade and is generally considered having low climate and environmental footprint. Recent research challenges this picture and there is an urgent need for holistic assessment of shipping related pressures and impacts, to guide the transition to sustainable transport. Listen to an overview of current knowledge, low hanging fruits to reduce negative environmental impact, and learn about unexpected discoveries in ship wakes.
About Ida-Maja Hassellöv
Ida-Maja Hassellöv is professor in the division of Transport, Energy and Environment. She has a background in marine chemistry (MSc and PhD) from the University of Gothenburg. Her present research interests focus on assessment of shipping related pressures and impacts on the marine environment. The research output can guide the development towards sustainable shipping and is frequently used in policy fora at national and international level.
