Fluid-Structure Interaction– Multidisciplinary Physics and Applications
Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is a multidisciplinary subject involving multiple flow and structure mechanisms. Relevant problems are widely noticed in industrial applications. In this lecture, the basics of FSI will be briefly introduced. To get a better understanding, the applications that have been investigated by the researcher Hua-Dong Yao will be overviewed in three major categories such as aero-vibro-acoustics, aeroelasticity, and hydroelasticity. The application scenarios will range amongst several transport and energy sectors including marine, aerospace, ground transportation, as well as renewable energy. At the end, interesting areas for future research will be foreseen and presented.
About Hua-Dong Yao
Hua-Dong Yao is a professor in the division of Marine Technology. He completed his PhD in 2008 and joined the division of Fluid Dynamics at Chalmers in 2010. Since the beginning of 2023, he has been working at the Marine Technology division, while also concurrently maintaining his research and strong collaboration with the Fluid Dynamics division. His present research interests focus on fluid-structure interaction. He is working closely with industrial and research organizations, and public authorities to contribute to a sustainable society including, for example, fossil-free ships such as wind/hydrogen-powered, aircraft, cars, high-speed trains, and wave and wind energy. His research has been continuously attracting financial support from Horizon 2020 and national funding bodies like VINNOVA and Energimyndigheten.
