Welcome to Arion Pons' promotion lecture titled "Insect and insect-inspired flight".
Overview
- Date:Starts 3 March 2023, 13:00Ends 3 March 2023, 14:00
- Language:English
Over the past 300 million years, insects have evolved exceptional flight capabilities – in some metrics, outperforming all other organisms on earth. Yet only in the last three decades have the mechanics of insect flight become clear. In this lecture we’ll discuss recent advances in the study of insect flight, and how these bring the prospect of insect-inspired micro-air-vehicles closer to reality.
About Arion Pons
Arion Pons is an assistant professor in the Division of Fluid Dynamics. Arion’s background is in Mechanical Engineering (MSc, PhD) and Life Sciences (Postdoc), with common themes of fluid-structure interaction and the flight dynamics of biological and bio-inspired systems. At Chalmers, Arion’s research focuses on the development of novel uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs); the study of biological flight; and the links and syntheses between the two.
