Abstract: Haynes 233 is a newly developed nickel-base superalloy, which is readily fabricable and is known for its excellent creep and oxidation properties. Due to its superior high-temperature properties, it is very suitable for demanding applications, such as gas turbines or jet engines in aerospace applications. The thesis also explores the additive manufacturing technology Laser - Directed Energy Deposition - wire (L-DED-w), which utilizes laser technology to precisely melt and deposit metal wire, enabling the production of complex components with high-quality, mechanical properties, and design flexibility. This technology is commonly applied in the aerospace industry, for efficient component manufacturing. 

GKN Aerospace requested a materials characterization of the superalloy Haynes 233 and the ambition of the master's thesis was to provide technical input towards this newly explored alloy. This study investigated the influence of six heat treatments on L-DED-w fabricated samples of Haynes 233. The results demonstrated significant impacts from the heat treatments on the grain size, hardness, and microstructural constituents.
