Abstract

In this inaugural lecture for “biträdande professor”, I will show you my work as a microscopist in the field of energy materials – beautiful images in the fascinating micro- and nona-world, delicate manipulation on the micrometre scale, and intriguing detective work to understand underlying mechanisms in order to push further the properties of materials. The goal of my research is to improve the performance of materials and find greener solutions for a sustainable future. I approach the goal through making full use of my research expertise in materials microstructure characterization, combining various advanced microscopy techniques – scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam and SEM, transmission electron microscopy, and atom probe tomography, together with spectroscopy techniques – Auger electron spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. I hope I will offer you a glimpse of what drives me to my work at Chalmers.
