Abstract:
The purpose of the project, conducted at SKF, has been to develop a concept for a bearing cage for a new self-aligning bearing called SAT. The focus of the project has been to develop a bearing cage suitable for wind turbine applications. During the project, the possibility of a polymer cage has been investigated in order to reap the benefits of lower cost, lighter weight, and increase in design freedom. Three different concepts have been designed and developed by using various product development methods. The feasibility of the chosen designs and different materials have been analyzed and benchmarked using simulation softwares and testing. The results consist of three valid concepts, including solid models, a physical prototype, design rules, and material recommendations.
