Professor Fredrik Normann, Division of Energy Technology, will present his inauguration lecture, “Energy and Its Emissions: The Role of Environmental and Energy Sciences in Industrial Development” in connection with his promotion to Professor (N2) in Energy and Emission Control at Chalmers University of Technology.
Overview
Energy and the emissions resulting from energy use is one of the major balancing acts in industrial development and one of the defining challenges of our time. Industrial sectors such as cement, steel, chemicals, and heat and power generation are essential to modern society, yet they are also responsible for a significant share of global emissions.
Drawing on more than two decades of research on energy systems, industrial emissions, and environmental technologies, as well as extensive collaboration with industrial partners, Fredrik will discuss the energy trilemma of ensuring energy security, maintaining energy affordability, and achieving environmental sustainability. The lecture will explore the evolution of pollution prevention and emission control strategies, the interaction between scientific research, industrial development, and public policy, and the critical role of academia in advancing knowledge, and educating the next generation of engineers.
