Jennifer Alvén is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Computer Vision group at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, working on deep learning for medical imaging. In this talk, she will explore her academic journey through the lens of machine learning: what it means to be an outlier, how bias is learned, and how limited representation shapes both machine learning datasets and academic systems. Drawing parallels between algorithmic fairness and inclusion, she explores why both machine learning models and academic institutions need more robust models to truly generalize.
